SQL server makes server hang!

We have SQL server 2000 version 8 running on our windows 2000 server.

Two days back i tried changing the Named pipes to 1433 on the SQL Server Network Utitlity, becasue i was having trouble with connection to one of the stored procedures... But anyway, now i know that i shouldn't have... casue it has nothing to do with the named pipes...

I have reverted named pipes back to\\.\pipe\sql\query, but when i did that initially enterprise manager just wouldn't connect to the local Server group...

After restarting a couple of times, it finally did connect and it started fine, but now most times i try to do anything with enterprise manager... the server hangs.

Can you please tell me what to do! Am is a real limbo here!
