Hi there.
Yesterday I have installed Vista rc2 (b. 5744) and I tried to install Alcohol 120 Software (virtual cd-rom emulation and creation). Installation seemed fine but after I restarted my system and logged on I had a serious problem - after a few second the screen started somehow "flashing" in blue and black (NOT the classic blue screen). The system did not react and after a few seconds of this flashing it restarted. This repeated a few times. Then I tried to run the system in Safe Mode but in this it did not even started, the error blue screen apperared for a second and the system restarted again.
Finally I somehow found some memory repairing tool and after running this the system works OK. I hope this helps you to make Vista better, I really love it.
For whatever it is worth, I also had nasty problems with Alcohol 120 back in Beta 2. Once I installed it the system would bluescreen at startup. I haven't tried it with RC1 yet (I'm fighting the 82801ER bug and can't get it installed at the moment). Hopefully the issue will get resolved...
It was no software program but some Windows Vista's tool during startup - it seemed like memory checking tool or something like that.. Alcohol 120 did not work after it, I was happy that the system itself started working normally, I uninstalled Alcohol immediately and the problem did not appear again.
How To Install Alcohol 120% on to Vista RC1 By (YaN, Stoke, UK) October 21 2006
Step 1
Rename the Alcohol installation exe to Install_A.exe and double click, this will now install. (Ignore any errors)
Step 2
Now Rename the Main alcohol exe in the Alcohol folder to MAIN_A.EXE
(Not forgetting to also change the Shortcut properties on your desktop to point to the new name)
Step 3
Now run the compatibility wizard and select the MAIN_A.EXE and set it to run as
Windows 2000 and run as Administrator.
Step 4
When the main alcohol window comes up, you will now be able to setup the Virtual drives with no errors.
