Enabling aero glass?

Is there something in particular that has to be done to enable this? I've installed Avalon and the other pieces with it, updated my gfx driver the the latest version from nvidia, but I'm still getting the plain aero, and I don't see anywhere to enable aero glass.
My system is far above the requirements needed for it: Athlon64x2 4400, GF7800GTX, 2GB RAM...

You need LDDM drivers and a card that supports DirectX9. The card you listed looks capable, but I am not sure if the beta driver from Nvida covers that model.

Nvidia graphics card wont do it at all, you need ATI X1800XL or above to do it. When i was at road show with Microsoft people, they have specifically told me to use ATI X1800XT cards and said that anything else wont work.

That is incorrect, and I am shocked that anyone would tell you that. There are card from Nvidia that do glass today.

Hi,

Mummm .... I've a XT1800XT ... and no drivers work again on beta 5270.

I tried :

- Catalys 5.13 about Windows XP 64 bits drivers : Blue Screen Of Death

- Catalys 5.13 about Windows XP 32 bits drivers : Blue Screen Of Death

- CATALYST Beta Driver 1 for Windows Vista beta 1 (code name Longhorn) : not good drivers : work only with cards X8xxx series and others "old" card. Not with the X1xxx series.

Sincerly,

Josh -

FYI - on the page that you referenced for downloading the alpha driver (http://www.nvidia.com/object/winvista_75.03.html) it says:

"Note: This driver is not compatible with Windows Vista and Longhorn Server build 5270 - The December CTP. Please use the drivers that are included with that build of the operating system. "

According to my understanding. 5270 onward use DirectX 10. You can type dxdiag under 'run' to verify it. My version is DxDiag 6.00.5270.0009 64-bit Unicode.

BTW someone have managed to enable AERO effect in Nvidia display card. They even though have that Slow Motion Effect & Slow Scroll Slow Motion Effect. I tested on 5270 (x64) and it work perfectly smooth. I am not sure if it is legitimate to discuss here. Therefore I won't show you the URL.

Pls don't try to use 7503 Nvidia driver. It's an old one which announced not to be compatiable with Build 5270. Just my 2 cents.

P.S. I have glass working on my Toshiba Tecra M4 using the nvidia GeForce 6200 LDDM driver. I can toggle glass on and off with ctrl-shift-f9.

I have 5270 installed on my HP DV1331SE laptop with an Intel 915 graphics chipset with glass running, blurred, animations, all the bells and whistles running just fine. So the information you received was wrong. I will take an actual picture of the laptop showing vista and glass running with system information if neccessary and on this forum topic if need be just to prove it works.

You might find the latest x64 Bit drivers work on under Vista nicely.

I also had a play with the NT Drivers also. But you still loose the Glass effect.
