Access to Hotmail via Outlook with IE 7 installed

Hiya

I have a big problem with trying to access my Paid up hotmail via Outlook. All worked fine before IE 7 RC1 was installed now outlook keep asking for my username and password, clicking ok does't work just keeps poping back up.

All my details are correct as i use it at work through outlook no problems, also with IE7 but i dont thave the came problem there as i do at home.

Can someplease point me in the right direction for a fix so that it works.

Thanks

Matt

Sorry Dave, the URL in your post above has nothing on this subject.

I have the same problem. Can't access hotmail account anymore through outlook express after I installed IE7 RC1. I get invalid login error. Here is my analysis:

this is the URL outlook express uses for retrieving the messages:

http://services.msn.com/svcs/hotmail/httpmail.asp

I used this url on another machine (IE6), a user/password popup comes up. entered my hotmail email id and password. WORKED.

Then I tried the same url on IE7 RC1, the user/password popup comes up. Entered hotmail email id and password. LOGIN FAILURE.

I think IE7 is playing with the password before sending it to the server. Looks like a serious issue because this could cause issues with other URLs too.

I don't know if I can unintall this crapy software and go back to IE6. Damn, what were I thinking.....

Hi

Just found out the same!

To try and get round another problem of 'ghost' history web-pages I installed IE7.

The 'ghosts' were still there so I uninstalled it. XP SP2 has IE5 built in so that reverted back. I did try to remove IE5 before re-installing IE7 but as it is built in you can't.

Would be curious for an answer on Outlook problem as I like you have no problem on IE5.

I know you can't access Hotmail thru Outlook after a certain date but upgraded IE should not affect it, especially when it places the url in the account settings.

In answer to your questionif your running XP you canuninstall IE7 and it will revert back to IE5.

Hey Matt,

Did you get this issue resolved? I too am having the same problem with my Outlook Express. I contacted the tech support thru my computer's mfgr and they gave me absolutely no help whatsoever. I still am having the problem.

Did someone give you the way to fix this problem with Outlook Express not letting you access your email? What was the solution? I need it. Can you please send it to me? Or anyone out there who reads this. HELP! I rely on this email for business purposes and have been unable to check it for 2 days now.

Looks like I'm stuffed. Simply won't work for me and can't find anything else that will help.

I had the same problem with the update not doing anything until I went into the "internet options" in explorer, and reset all the settings to the default ones....this sorted out my outlook access to hotmail right away :)

I tried accessing the http://services.msn.com/svcs/hotmail/httpmail.asp url from a new XP build(without IE7) and i wasn't able to logon using my existing hotmail id (which I've had since the pre Microsoft days).

Therefore there was no need for me to use the KB904942 update.

My account was always able to use Outlook or OE to access until sometime earlier this year.

Has this got anything to do with MS phasing out support for Outlook or OE except for paying customers ?
