Print Subsystem in Vista

Anybody have any idea how the print spool system will work in Windows VISTA?

How will it be different than current Win2k/XP spooler?

Any info would be great.

Thanks.

Good golly, sorry for the delay getting to you. The spooler will support XPS as well as EMF in Windows Vista. So, printing will effectively work just like it does today for GDI-based drivers and devices. However, Windows Vista ushers in an enhanced print subsystem that uses the XPS Document format as a native spool file format. To better understand how this all works, please review a new whitepaper posted at http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/device/print/XPSDrv_FilterPipe.mspx.

Envitro,

The main changes between Windows XP and Windows Vista spooler are the addition of new print paths that use the XPS Document format as a spool file. For more information on these changes, please review our online content at http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/device/print/default.mspx.
