Install Issues - "a disk read error occurred"

When the Vista install reboots the machine I get the following error. a disk read error occurred. I have tried several different drives and still get the same result. Any ideas?

I'm going to assume that you have figured this out, since this post was on 9/28, but for everyone else...

I had this same problem one time when installing WinXP

This problem for me occured when i was using a 200gb hd.
i had the first 20 gb dedicated for windows home (which was already installed), and i wanted to play with pro, so i dedicated the next 20 gb to xp pro, and the rest for file storage.
All was working well with both OS's, until i wanted to wipe it all clean and have only one OS on it...

i used the windows install section to delete both partitions, and make it only one 40 gb partition (i was going to change partition sizes later). Since this hd already had a primary partition on it, windows wanted to make the new 40gb partition a secondary partition, rather than primary.

this is what caused the issue. as soon as i used a partition editor (ie acronis disk director suite), and i made this partition a primary one, all worked well.

Hope this helps...

unfortunately I gave up. I was running an old box and figured motherboard was too old. It was a pII with 1gig ram and a 60 gig drive. It runs windows server 2003 just fine so I thought I would give it a shot. I tried several times with different disk partition configurations and still the same response.
