much like what nobugz had to offer ... I think you're whining about the wrong thing in the wrong place.
a language is a language is a language ... it's concepts that matter, not syntax. your teacher is providing you building blocks -- 90% of anything you will ever learn about programming will happen outside the classroom, in the real world. teachers don't have enough time to teach you everything you will ever need to know, and few people have the initiative or ambition to learn anywhere close to that much in 4-6 years of schooling.
once you have a solid programming foundation in place, you'll find yourself teaching yourself what you need, as you go, in terms of specific languages, libraries/APIs, techniques, methods, implementations. are you going to end up an embedded (realtime) developer? a web developer? a database developer? a mobile device developer? an OS creator? are you going into the automotive field? the financial industry? medical? you don't know, and neither does your professor. there's no way you can be taught the latest and greatest of "everything" and still have a broad base that lets you do "anything."

But... but... isn't the Hot Technology forum intended for questions that have no relevance whatsoever to Microsoft products or programming? I mean, do you actually expect people to read the forum description before posting? ![]()
I swear, it's only a matter of time until we start seeing threads like "HELP MY WAshing machine doesnt work!" or "can somebody tell me how to replace the fuel pump on a '96 honda civic".

Those were probably two of my favorite threads of all time. Probably not for the reason the posters intended, however!

mysteriously enough, my original replies in those threads got moderated into nothingness :( must have been a bug in the forum software!

Well, you should know better than to pick on forums superstar "mcmarquez"! The 8 off-topic and almost completely incoherent threads he posted in his first 48 hours here were an example to us all. He posted for three days and then vanished, and hasn't posted once in the past 5 weeks. He's exactly the sort of poster we need more of around here, and I'm glad the moderators are keeping jerks like us from scaring his kind off. ![]()

I suspect the generals of his country imprisoned or otherwise disappeared him for interrupting their criminal activities with his stellar crime-preventing RFID technologies. That or Symbol hired him to head their RFID department. Or perhaps 1984 called, and needed their people-watching TVs equipped with RFID?

Haha, either that or he's gone on to bigger and better things.
- "I've come up with a solution to world hunger: you guys should probably just eat some food!"
- "Don't like what's on TV? I'm developing a technology to help you change the channel via a little something I've termed remote control"
- "I'm wearing pants. I think it's a good idea to wear pants and I'd like to talk to an engineer about helping this idea take off."
