Catalog Navigation Bar

I would like to keep the Catalog Navigation bar (on the left hand side of the screen) still displaying when I get down to the last item of the chain.

Once you get to the product list screen the Navigation bar "Disappears" and you then have to use the Bread Crumb to get back.

Please Advise.
